Dudi was called to be in the bishopric a couple weeks ago which means I've gotta make it through Sacrament without him. My parents were in town last week so this week was my first solo with the kids.
We arrived 10 minutes early (which proves Dudi was usually holding us up), we found some seats with friends that had asked to sit with us to help me out (brave souls), and all was good. Nothin' to it.
Unfortunately about 20 minutes into church my friend got called into work and they had to leave. It gradually went downhill from there. Asher and Liv discovered the light switch was close by and took off for it.
The strobe effect is cool and all but...
So I took off after them, we all ended up in the hall, a little bit of threatening happened, came back into the chapel, and ended up strapping the children down cause they were still trying to get to the light switches all the while I'm praying for the meeting to end.
Okay, so we did make it through almost all of sacrament without incident. Not too bad for the first week, it could have been way worse.
Test 1= C+.
Oh, did I mention we had tithing settlement at 12:50? Not enough time to go home without having to turn back around, so we hung out at church.
Curse those light switches. I don't know why they make them so low. It was a pretty rough 45 minutes. I won't go into detail, but we did make it out alive. I'm not so sure about the others.
Test 2= D-
This evening Dudi and I were wrapping some gifts for some families. Micah asked why we were buying presents for other kids. We talked a little bit about service and helping out those in need.
A little while later Micah brought down a handfull of money from his bank. He said it was to help buy presents for some of the families that needed presents. What a sweet little guy.
Test 3=A+
They are actually little angels. They are just currently in training.

Don't worry it will get better. Justin has been in the bishopric now for over a year. Here are some things we do:
1. We eat at church (it starts at 8am and breakfast at home doesn't always work plus snacks make good bribes).
2. If they are good they get to go up on the stand and see Justin after sacrament meeting, but if they aren't they don't get to go. One week of not going up did the trick.
3. I have a HUGE church bag filled with all kinds of activities to keep them busy.
Good Luck! I am so use to sitting alone that when he does sit by us it throws our routine off!
Those are great pictures, Mary. Seriously, that last picture is STUNNING.
This post was so well said. Kids really are angels in training. I know I have wanted to string my little angels up by their tarnished halos...I need to remember that training takes a while.
Micah's sweet gesture made me teary. Such a good boy!
I totally laughed at how you said that this proves that Dudi is the one holding you up on Sunday mornings.
What beautiful pictures! I really feel for you about sitting alone with the kids. David has been in the bishopric for almost 2 years now and we've slowly made it to the point where I do not consider sacrament meeting hell on earth. Your friend has some great suggestions. I have finally stopped threatening not to come back until David is done with his calling and every once in awhile I do actually get to enjoy some of the talks. It's just a season, I keep telling myself. Those angels in training do eventually advance to the next level.
Sorry yesterday was so rough. If it makes you feel any better, we really enjoy the strobe light effect at church!! :) I feel for you. I would offer to sit with/by you but I'm not sure 5 kids to 2 adults would help the situation!
Davin will be wonderful in his new calling! Good luck with the kids Mary - that is hard. The pictures of the kids are adorable.
I love strobe lights in any situation.
Anyway, I had fun chatting with you after Church on Sunday! I was so glad we weren't waiting around by ourselves.
Hope next week is better for you!
