Help wanted/needed

I've got a problem and I'm lookin' for some advice.

Micah is my school boy.  He was so sad at the end of last year, he didn't' want summer break to come, crazy right?  I kinda took it personal.  Anyways, he's always loved school and is an excellent student.  I was worried about Asher starting, but it turns out he's liking it pretty well (thankfully), but not worried about Micah cause he's always loved it.  You know where I'm going with this... Micah HATES school this year.  None of his friends are in his class (or the class that he goes to recess with), but what he really is having trouble with is his teachers.  He says they are both mean and always yell and get onto the kids.  I'm willing to help in anyway, believe me I'm already tired of hearing, "School stinks,"  "This is the worst year," "I wish I could get sick and stay home from school," "I'm not going to school, mom!"

Help!

Does anyone have any advice for making it better.  There are a lot of things I can do, but I can't change a teacher's personality.  It makes me sad, I really want him to love school again.  Suggestions anyone?

Hungry for more

So the past year or so I 've been waiting for "Mockingjay," the third and final book in the "Hunger Games" series to come out.

It has been painful.

I've had it preordered and was so excited when it got here Thursday. As I mentioned, I showed restraint and waited till AFTER super saturday was over before i started reading. Here's what i thought about the book without giving too much away.

I wanted a litte more.

It was an awesome book, couldn't put it down, but when I was finished I felt like I still had some unresolved issues. Don't get me wrong, the book resolves issues, but some of them should have played out a little more in my opinion. For example, the love triangle. The past books I loved how she subtly intertwine the love stories throughout. This one, not so much. Some, but I needed a little more.
Second, I really was upset about some of the deaths. Okay, I know people die, but come on!
Third, it's super hard for me to finish a series I love. And I loves me those Hunger Games! I really love the characters and it's a series I think about even after I'm finished reading it.

All in all, I really did love the book though. If you haven't read the series I highly recommend it. It is one of my favorites!

super saturday crafts

Super saturday was today. I just wanted to post a few of the crafts we did. The pictures aren't that great-sorry.

So glass etching was the one I taught, we did a few vinyl classes, magnet recipe board (not pictured), artisan bread making, cake decorating, 72-hour buddy burners, crocheted edge burp clothes, and pies-in-a-jar.
I think it turned out good and i had fun just visiting with everyone. It was a lot of work though!
I'll try and post pictures of the other projects tomorrow. I just didn't want to dig through all my stuff to find them, because I finally could sit and read "Mockingjay!"

How you can tell Liv's sick

She's napping!

None of my kids have been nappers since they were about 15 months old. So when I see one of them taking a nap, I get a little worried. Liv started crying that her ear hurt and about 10 minutes later I found her like this. Now I know this is not a particularly comfy chair to fall asleep in.

Needless to say she has an ear infection.

I'm glad she's feeling better now!

"Queen for a Day" -- Reflections

I enjoyed Mary's recent post about her big 30th birthday surprise. We have been so busy this week that I had to read her post to find out whether or not she really liked her "queen for a day" experience. It sounds like she did, and that is a good thing. In reality, she actually deserves to be "queen for a day" everyday (or at least once or twice a year), but I have kind of slacked off in that department. I did want to make her 30th birthday something special to repay her for throwing me the best birthday I ever had on my 30th (almost 3 years ago). The surprise party she conjured up for me was probably better than what I pulled off for her, but that is pretty consistent with most things in our marriage.

I'm pretty happy with how the whole day turned out for Mary. The thing I am actually most proud of is the cake and frosting that I made (with Livy's help ???) from scratch. I'm also pleased with the video clip I put together, which I showed to her to start the whole day off. I attached the clip to this post. I think the kids are pretty hilarious in the clip; they all tend to say the most random things, yet each one manages to retain their own sense of unique randomness at the same time. That is quite a feat if you ask me.

Attempting organization

The last few weeks I've been pretty consumed with getting our ward's super saturday ready, but I had a project that I had to get done, so I squeezed it in.

I don't know how you guys (especially you, Elizabeth) do it.  With school starting, there are so many papers, notes, homework, book orders, etc., etc. coming home-and I just have 2 in school!
I had to get more organized!
I decide to get some folders and bins for some of their work, and to make these clipboards to hold their weekly papers (due each Friday).  It was a quick project, and I thought they turned out pretty cute.

Embracing it

It's true, I'm 30.
And guess what?
I'm embracing it.

The day was filled with surprises from my sweet husband.
He took the day off and sent me to the spa for a facial and full body mud wrap.  And yes, it was a FULL body wrap.  So I get to this beautiful spa and was a little mortified to find out what the full body mud wrap entailed.  Let's just say that anything involving me wearing a paper thongs is a no-go.  Yet, there I found myself lying on a table with some poor woman rubbing mud on my white, dimpled, stretched marked rear end.  Sounds relaxing, right?
I had a mental chat with myself and decided I had to get over it so I could actually enjoy it.  So I did, I embraced it.  And it was great. I could definitely be a return customer for the facial.

Next he sent me to P.F. Chang's for lunch with about 10 of my friends while he watched all their kids! I had to go straight from the spa which meant I had NO make-up on whatsoever (not even lip gloss!).
  But guess what?
 I embraced it.
I figured, my skin was at its best because of the facial, so no biggie.
It was really sweet of him and lunch was so much fun!  I'm still thinkin' about that Mongolian Chicken-Yum!

Then I was off to an embroidery class.  I've been trying to go to one for a while, so he decided to set one up for me.

To wrap up the day we dined on a cake Dudi and Liv had made.  The boys decorated it with a tiara because I was "queen for a day."  They did a fabulous job.

It was one of the most thoughtful and fun birthdays.  Thanks, Dudi!  And now that I've decided to embrace it, 30's not SO bad!
